Hi Guys

I am british Passport holder and my wife has dependant visa. We are expecting our 1st baby this year. My wife is currently in non-Eu country

We are trying to decide whether to have the delivery in UK or outside UK.. Obviously it will be lot cheaper and easier to have it in home country.

However the confusion we are facing is how difficult it will be for the baby to travel ? Can he get passport/visa if he came to UK ?

Can I apply for his passport once he is back in UK ?

Thanks for any help/suggesion

Regards

By giving birth in UK, the child will be British otherwise than by descent with transmissible nationality. If born in UK, there is no need to get their passport until you are going to travel internationally.
If the child is born outside UK, they will be British by descent and cannot transmit nationality to any children born outside UK. They need a passport to travel to UK. It takes longer and costs more to apply for British passport abroad. So you can just get passport of mother's nationality, travel to UK (may need a visa if visa-national) and can apply for British passport in UK.

Hi Joppa

I knew you will be helpful as always

So let's assume if he is born outside, he has to apply for visa too even if he is like 3-6 months old ? Can't he travel with his mother and arrive in UK ?

Also how easy/costly it is to apply for his passport ? It is like normal passport application ?

Thanks for your help Joppa..
