Yes it is the same thing as getting notarized, however on the advice of my agent I had the notary agent write a statement in the document that "I certify this is a true copy of the original". Sometimes the notary agent may refuse to write this and on such occasion you may write it yourself in the presence on the notary. The important thing is the notary stamp.
