You can't.
I use a cheque to transfer funds from UK and 30 days is the normal clearing time. However, although you cannot get cash or use a debit card, after 7 days bankers orders can be debited against it

I don't think that you can just cash the cheque, you will need to put it into your account,
When I put my HMRC refund cheque into Sabadell Bank they charged me an arm and leg to put it into my account then they didn't really want to do it. I don't think it took 30 days though.

Set up direct deposit to a Wise US dollar account, and this problem is solved.

I have a Wise account with an account in dollars but the IRS sent me a check and Wise doesn't accept checks

Not exactly the same, but I deposited my US stimulus checks into my BBVA account, and the money was available to me in less than a week.

Note the OP is talking about the US (irs tax refund 'check'!)

I get a small annual refund from HMRC and it goes straight into my Caxia Bank A/C.

When I get a check in USD I use PayPal. Take a photo of both sides and it is in my account in a few days.

I do have a US PayPal account. I do not know if it makes a difference.
