Today we went to the prefecture to submit documents for my family's residence permit. I am British and husband and kids are Australian She seemed happy with our documents. Big relief! She said the kids did not need to apply for the permit and didn't want their passport or birth certificates. From what I had read I thought children did need to have one. They are all under 10 years. Can anyone shed any light?

No, children under 16 don't need one - see Le mineur étranger non européen doit-il avoir une carte de séjour ?  - Service-public.fr
