I'm thinking of taking a car loan to "top up" the purchase of a new car.

Probably about 30% of purchase price.

Should I expect problems re: either the offer or time-span required to assess the paperwork?

As I have no credit in France, I have no "track record".

Do I start from scratch or is there a way that the Finance Company can take a Credit Reference from the UK?

TIA

Depends who you are financing it through. If you're going with the dealer, it's up to their financing company, but chances are they won't consider any credit history from outside of France. If you go through your bank, they will consider the salary information they have for your account. And actually, going through the bank might be the easier way to go - seeing as where you are only financing a small-ish portion of your car and it would establish your credit worthiness with your bank.
Cheers,
Bev
