Hi,

I'm moving over to the UK on an Ancestry visa in 2 years. I'd like to know if my plan is viable: I want to get a house loan, purchase a house, and immediately begin renting it out while I live in an apartment.

Am I able to organise this while still in Australia? Can I purchase a home and rent it while not living in the country or while not yet a citizen?

Thanks!

My bank told me that I (EU citizen) can apply for a mortgage after being in the UK for two years.

A colleague, who is from South Africa and here on an ancestry visa, was told that she would only be considered after six years in the country.

Different banks might have different rules, though.
