Bonjour everyone,

I have recently bought a house in Nyons (Drome provencale) and love just about everything about my new life there. There is just one snag: I horribly miss speaking English. Now, this may seem funny because I am originally a French speaker but the truth is I am an anglophile at heart (why have I moved from London to France, you may ask...well, mundane as it may sound, the weather has a lot to do with it).

So, here goes: how and where can I find British (American?) expats in the Nyons area ? Are there any clubs you know of or cafés where English speakers meet? In exchange for a bit of socialising I could help with any language-related issue you may have.

Right now is still the summer vacation season, so you may have to wait a couple of weeks before finding any groups with English speakers. But in early September, see what towns around you are holding Forums des Associations to recruit new members for the various clubs and associations in the area.

Very often there is a newcomers' group like Acceuil des Villes Français (AVF) that holds some events in English or would be thrilled to have someone organize language exchange sessions or something similar. Sometimes you can even find a language group where people want to practice their language skills.

Or just join a hiking or other interest group and see if you can find an expat or just a retired English teacher who would love to have the occasional chinwag in the local café.

Thank you, EverHopeful. Sorgues is a looong way from Nyons though. I'd have to experience really painful withdrawal symptoms before I drive that far.
