Hi we are travelling to Lescala in September this year a place we have been to many times but this time we have a new member of the family our mini schnauzer George - my question I'm hoping to get some help with is we feed him raw food - is there anywhere in or near lescala that does raw dog food
Many Thanks
Jo

If you are from UK, there is quite a bit of red tape to negotiate when bringing a dog to Spain.
Briefly they are:
1. Arrange a rabies vaccination at the vets.
2. Book your travel to Spain. Only a very few airlines allow a dog to be carried in the cabin. Or you can bring your dog in your car. Read up on ferry company's rules about what you must do with your dog during the crossing. Some state your dog must stay in the car. Some like overnight Britanny Ferries compel you to book a dog-friendly cabin, which is always in great demand.
3. Get Animal Health Certificate within 10 days of travel.
4. Travel to Spain.
5. At a vet in EU between 1 and 5 days before your return to UK, get tapeworm treatment done.
6. Return with your dog to UK.

Genuine query, if travelling a dog on the ferry overnight how does one manage feeding the dog?
My dog , for example , has a mix of dried "nuggets" (no problems there) plus one of tinned meat, soft cheese or scraps. Both cheese and meat are now banned on a journey from the UK to the EU, or so I believe. At what point do they have to be ditched?
By the way I use the soft cheese for ensuring there will be no problem with tablet consumption as and when required.

I would be worried the dog would jump off the ferry!

No problems taking cheese etc out of UK. It's taking into the EU that can be problematical. While your ferry is in international waters, you aren't subject to import control. Once you are in territorial waters of 12 miles from the mainland, technically you are liable but it won't be an issue until you disembark and face customs control. As for how to feed your dogs overnight, just book a dog-friendly cabin, which is always in great demand and needs to be booked months before.
