I am in Australia on a 444 visa with my wife who is on a 309 visa.
Can anyone tell me what kind of free public maternity care she is allowed if any.
being on a 309 she is not entitled to medicare as she only has NZ permanent residence.

Thanks

Are you sure she has a 309 (partner) visa? Generally, 309 visa holders are entitled to Medicare. If she has a 461 visa (partner of NZ citizen on SCV) then she would not qualify for Medicare unless she is a citizen of a country with a reciprocal agreement such as the UK. In that case, she will need to have private health cover. It should be noted that most insurers have a 12-month waiting period on pregnancies.
