They may ask you to show details of bank accounts I'm not sure, like shel I'm married to an aussie so had to send in bank statements as part of the proof of my relationship with my husband but I was not told I had to have x amount.
I would suggest tho that whatever you plan to bring with you try and double it. We brought over $20k thinking it would last ages buy by the time we paid bond/rent for 9 weeks, bought a car and furniture and had a little holiday it was all but gone!! Took 6 weeks to spend it all lol luckily my hubby had a job within 3 weeks!! Id say what you need to bring depends on your lifestyle too. We are a family of 5 and get by on 1100 a week, that covers rent on a 4 bed, petrol, food, internet, mobile phones etc we don't have expensive days out, just trips to the park/beach and we are managing to start saving some already too but the first few weeks are a killer for most bank balances.......good luck
