Hi all, it's been almost 10 years since I've lived in Dubai,at the time I was married and there under my husbands work visa. I am thinking of returning with my daughter to seek employment as a homeopathic practitioner / teacher...just the two of us. What is the general feeling on this, am I likely insane to be going alone with a child or should I stop listening to the 'don't do anything outside the box' crowd I have around me at the moment?
Thoughts and opinions would be most welcome, thanks.

Well I am surprised you are asking us to sound off about your life choices given that you have already lived here and for sure you know the pos & cons in living in Dubai. I think you know better. With my 1,5 years in Dubai I cannot really give you an opinion. I think you honestly know more than me whether it will suite you or not.

Hi, are you worried about not being able to get employment in the line of work you are in, or is it more the coming out here as a single parent that is concerning you?

She meant coming as a single mom because she states she will be looking for a job. Well then again, I am sure you know better. You know the pos and cons of coming as a single mom.

Many women don't come to the UAE because it is not friendly to single women ?

Some women come and live in Expat neighborhoods ? May be you can get a job first rather than moving and seek for one ?

It is your choice to make.

Hi, yes, it is coming out as a single parent that concerns me. With regards to work, I know I have the qualifications and experience that would be required, the make or break of it, I think, will be how much prejudice i'm likely to encounter..... and expose my daughter to more importantly.

Hi,
my thinking was that a lot can change in ten years and i might be best to ask the opinions of people currently living in Dubai.

If coming out again is something you are definite about and you have a job to go to so you can sponsor your daughter, then to put your mind at rest, I'm out here as a single mum with 2 young uns in tow and il be honest, I haven't encountered any prejudice at all! I also know several other one parent families out here as well and its fine! In fact we are trying to organise play dates for us single mums to meet even more single mums! Drop me a pm if you do decide to take the plunge. :)
