Hello,

My mother is currently in receipt of saspa benefit.

If she sells her house, moves to a smaller one and therefore gets the balance in cash (about euro40k), will the saspa benefit be withdrawn because she now has money in the bank?

Thanks very much for any help or advice.

I'll leave you to cut through the French, but according to this page from the Service Public, they don't take into account the value of the place where you're living - which may or may not cut in your favor.

Best thing to do would be to check with the mairie in the town where your mother lives and see what they can tell you. (It seems to be the local mairie that administers this particular benefit.)
Cheers,
Bev

Thanks Bev - I think the point I am trying to understand is the impact of the cash proceeds from the sale. Ie she will move from having no bank savings to circa Euro40k.

Is the benefit means tested on income or income and savings?

According to the page I linked you to, they test based on "resources" which seems to be basically income related. They don't say anything about bank balances specifically, as it's usually assumed that an elderly person will remain in the "family home" so it can be passed to the heirs.
Cheers,
Bev
