Hi all,
Hoping someone can help me. I'm currently applying for my Australian citizenship by descent and I'm trying to work out how to obtain a Police clearance certificate (penal clearance) from the USA (I lived there for 4 years between 2016-2020). I was on an L1 visa.

Has anyone done this or have experience of this? I'm struggling to find where to apply for one. I'm a UK citizen.

Thanks!

Thank you so much - I'd found this page but didn't want to proceed until I knew it was the correct route to follow. It states that fingerprints are required but as I'm not in the US I can't pop along to the 'local post office' to get them taken. Do you have any experience of how non-resident foreigners would obtain them? Thanks!

In which ever country you are, please go to the nearby police station, inform them that you are applying for a USA PCC and request them to take your fingerprints on the FBI indicated card. The police station would take a fee for taking your fingerprints and sending them to USA FBI address. Please do not forget to send other forms indicated by FBI, request the corresponding police personnel to mail other forms and payment form along with finger prints card.
In addition, please take a standard FBI indicated fingerprint card with you, in case the police station wouldn’t have one. The police personnel would take your fingerprints and would only send it to FBI by themselves. You will not be provided the fingerprint card. If I am not clear in conveying, please post further.

Hello!
I am Indian citizen and I lived in USA for 6 years until Jan-2023. Now I am in India. I received SC190 pre invite and hence I need FBI clearance. Fortunately, I applied for fingerprints back in Oct-2022 while I was in USA. For you, please go to local police station or US embassy and let them know you need fingerprints for FBI clearance, they will help you. After obtaining your fingerprints, Please go to the link sent to you by our mate emailgeneral24 and that link will navigate you in obtaining FBI clearance. You need to pay $18.00 and fill a form in that link. Then an email will be sent to your email ID by FBI, take a printout of that email, send it to FBI address along with fingerprints. After receiving your fingerprints, FBI will email you your rapsheet in 3-5 business days.
My question— Is FBI clearance enough?? I heard that we need to get PCC from state police also. Is it so?? I lived in Louisiana and Texas. Do I need PCCs from those states or just FBI clearance is suffice? Please advise me.

Hello my friend. I have a question. Is FBI clearance enough? Or do I need PCC from those states where I lived for more than 12 months? I lived in Texas and Louisiana. Do I need to submit PCCs of Texas and Louisiana ? Or just FBI rapsheet is enough?

Obtaining clearance from state is a different process. You have to contact the corresponding state police department. For immigration purpose, FBI(federal clearance) would suffice, unless the corresponding immigration authority requests for specific state police clearance.

Dear @RDStranger ; I received my FBI clearance today and it it clean record. But I have a pending criminal case of damaging a small property, however it is not showing in FBI clearance letter. Can Aus govt know my pending case even if it’s not showing in FBI ??

It's the digital age mate. You will be surprised how data is linked between countries. You are better off getting some advice from reputed Migration agent/Immigration Lawyer
