I have a job offer in a multinational company in OZ and will be applying to 457 subclass either from Canada or India. I carry Indian passport & Canadian residency.

Questions:

1. What is the processing time for 457 visa? (from submitting application to getting travel document in hand)

2. Is it better to apply for ENS visa & what is the processing time?

3. Can I take shot term business visa (456) and while I am on 456, can I apply for 457 or ENS and atleast start travling to OZ to start work?

Please let me know the information on above as its very urgent and I have to make a call tomorrow on to take the job or not..thanks alot.

Hi SPEP:

1. As little at 2 weeks, but typically 4-6 weeks.
2. ENS processing time is 3-6 months, most of the waiting time tends to be on PCC and Medical checks. Also you will need your profession assessed by the appropriate organisation in AU (i.e. ACS for IT).
3. No, I think you'll have a job offer and 456 has this condition:
Business (Short Stay) Visa (Subclass 456)
Be allowed to engage in limited work, if for example it is highly specialised and non-ongoing

ENS is a PR visa and has more extensive medical checks and takes longer to process. You would have all the rights of a PR holder if you go for that. If your company is willing you should consider coming in on this one.

Thanks Amasalm,

My company can sponsor ENS but timing may be an issue since they want me there as soon as possible.

- How much time do I need to wait to apply for PR if I come on 457?
- How tough it is to get PR from 457 & how much time does it take for processing for PR?

Hi SPEP:

1. It will be 3-6 months after you come on 457, most of that time is taken up by the police and medical checks.
2. Not that tough, this is how I became a PR (I went from a 457 to 856). You can apply for an ENS the day you enter AU if you want.

Do a search on the forum for 457, ENS, and 856 (also 857)

It doesn't help from a points standpoint but since your previous application is already in the DIAC system it can help in processing time a bit (since some of the info wouldn't have changed since your 457).
