Soek Saffer pensioners to socialize the parents a bit ...

Hi all,

'scuse the hijacking of yr enquiry, Yasmin (and Stu)! How are you finding things in the US? Good, I guess !

Nutshell: We relocated our parents (forced removals, but with love) from Durban to HHI area in SC 3 years ago ... and are looking for any clues to finding other retired Saffers in the area. Integration somewhere new is hard at any age (it was hard enough for me at 40+ to settle in Germany, it is 100x harder for parents hitting 70!). So, any ideas on finding other retired Saffers would be awesome!

My sister has been in the US for 12+ years - but being in her 30s, she not know too many pensioners ....

Anyways, later & apologies again for the hijack!

I hope your folks have settled in Hilton Head and met some new friends. If they don’t already know, just down the road from them in Savannah (about 35 miles) is a little restaurant called Zunzi’s - The owner Johnny (I think he’s from Joburg) is a good Guy and has Borrie Rolls, Curry (and all) and Cottage Pie, amongst other food.
You never know, they may meet other Saffers at Zunzi’s or Johnny may have a bunch he knows?

Well, the folks are settled (mostly), except for Ma who still pines for The Old Country. Pa is happy anywhere with a cold Castle (ok, a Bud nowadays...), a garage and a braai. Ma is proving a little harder to get socialising (they don't come breaking your door down, you gotta go OUT and MEET people ...). They do a little socialising with two ex-Saffers ... but still need to expand the social circle a bit. No, a lot ...

Savannah is max 30 miles from where they are - so yes, we'll point them at Zunzi's (and Johnny) & see what happens. Curry an'all is on the brew as I type this ...

Thinks I make up a "Retired Saffers Wanted!" poster ...

You're making me hungry with curry on the brew...my Sister taught my american wife to make curry and she does a pretty good job. Maybe it's something we can do this weekend.
