Hi my wife and I will be in Almuñécar at the beginning of November 2022, we would loke to know the best bars to go to for a cana y tapa, and also where do you get the best cafe con leche ?.Are there many cafes and bars open in November? We are staying in the Velilla-Taramay area but we do like a good walk.

Thanks

I know the town well. There are many lovely places, and I heartily recommend that you treat yourself to a day of what my mum calls “drinking lunch”, (being in the province of Granada, the caña comes automatically with a free tapa 🥳) and basically do a bar crawl. Take notes!

in Velilla Taramay, you’ll probably enjoy the Antiguo Méson for a seafront seat. There’s a hearty (Uruguayan, I think) bar further up towards Taramay. I cant remember its name, but there’s always a buzz of locals outside it. La Primera Ola chiringuito is quite nice, but it might be closed.

in the town itself, start with Méson Gala near the front and weave your way among the many bars round there towards the Old Town. Head towards the square and, just before you get there, near the top of the hill, you’ll find Bodega Francisco I, my personal favourite tapas bar in Almuñécar these last 40 years.

enjoy!

Have been to the town half a dozen times so I don't claim to be an expert, but one thing you need to remember is it's essentially a Spanish town, following Spanish dining habits. Especially in the off season, you will find restaurants that remain open are unlikely to be serving dinner much before 8-9 pm and 2 pm for lunch. Also you will find quite a lot of restaurants and cafes on the seafront will be closed, so you need to look inland where the locals congregate.
