My British boyfriend and I have been together for over five years now. We're looking to settle in the UK soon, but are unsure as to which partner visa I'd be eligible for.
While we have been in a relationship throughout these five years, there have been a few periods when we've been physically apart, which is why I'm cautious of applying as his unmarried partner. That, and I'm not sure we'd be able to supply the level of documentation necessary to prove our relationship. Currently, we have no joint bank account, and no monthly bills with both of our names on them, since everything has always been in his name, as he is the main earner. From what I gather, this is the sort of proof the UKBA needs in order to issue any sort of partner visa, but is there anything else we can substitute it with?
I first moved to the UK in 2008, under a Working Holidaymaker visa. The following year, I applied and got a student visa. And, another student visa the year after that, which i also got. I'm not sure if this will help or hinder our goal, so again, any advice would be much appreciated.
As for marriage, we've always known that's where we're headed, but want to wait until we're settled to do so. And, even if we were married, would we still have to prove that our aforementioned relationship was akin to marriage for at least a two year period?
