Hi All,

Today I got Positive Skills Assessment from ACS.

Thanks all for your support.

I have a question:

I have work experience from Jan 2007 to March 2013 ( 6 years and 3 months)

What the letter states that:

The following employment after January 2011 is considered to equate to work at an appropriately skilled level and relevant to 262112 (ICT Security Specialist) of the ANZSCO Code.

Dates: 01/07 - 09/10 (3yrs 8mths)
Dates: 09/10 - 03/13 (2yrs 6mths)

What does that mean?? Are they considering my work experience from jan 2011??

Firstly, Congrats on the positive assessment from ACS.

Well, I guess your education was different from your occupation and hence they have deducted 4 years from your experience. Only work experience from Jan 2011 will be considered by DIAC and that means you wont be able to claim points for work experience.

Btw.. when did you apply ACS for ? and whats your ANZCO Code?

I have computer science degree and had relevant technical security risk assessment experience in two companies, but i dont know why have they deducted 4 years? Although the job description was more or less relevant to the category i applied for (ICT Security Specialist). Now whats the use of this positive skills assessment?? Its seems crap, a waste of time and money.

I understand how you must be feeling. You are right about the relevance of your degree with your job description. Maybe you should send them a mail to clarify about this. Also, if you dont have a overall score of 8 for IELTS, you could give it a try so as to increase your points. What is your total points now?

I was planning for victoria state sponsorship for which i was hoping to get 5 points but now it seems impossible. they require IELTS 7 and 3 years of work exp. Since they have deducted 4 years leaving only 2 years.

There are people who got victoria state sponsorship without 3 years of experience. Victoria might consider your true experience and not the ones assessed by ACS. You should give the IELTS and aim for band 8.

You mean Victoria may consider my profile with out 3 years requirements mentioned against the skilled occupation? Are you sure? Will they not refer ACS Assessment? in which they have given me only 2.3 years of experience.

Yes.. One of the forum members had posted that he got his Vic SS without having 3 years of experience.Whats the harm in submitting your application for Vic SS anyway? You neither have to pay for it nor you have to lodge an EOI. Go ahead and apply for Vic SS mate.

How many points i can claim for qualification?

Your Bachelor of Science (Computer Science ) from ABC has been assessed as comparable to an AQF Bachelor Degree with a major in computing

Your Certification completed March 2010 has been assessed as comparable to an AQF Diploma with a major in computing

Hi,

Today i was told by ACS Assessor that my degree was not related to the occupation i am applying for (ICT Security Specialist) thats why according to new criteria i need to have 4 years work experience. So they deducted my 4 years work experience.

I just simply asked them how can a computer science major degree not related to ICT security specialist category? and they dont have answer to my simple question. It seems they are going for TAGS on Degrees. I told them Computer Science is a general degree which covers ICT Security domain further i told them i have done security related courses during under grad studies like network security, computer networks, IS Audits, Database etc but it seems they dont have any appropriate answer to my simple question and reason for deducting 4 years.

That's just plain ridiculous .. Unfortunately , we cannot do anything to change their decision . I would suggest you to apply for Victoria state sponsorship at the earliest .

Dear Davidnischeal,

You have good chances of being assessed as Positive by ACS but be ready to lose 2 or 4 years of your work experience. They are working on Illogical and naive criteria for work exp assessment. Your current job and degree must have 65% percent relevancy.

This is really stupid of them. Were you assessed as ICT major or minor? Can you also please elaborate on TAGS? When the questions were posed to them, did they prefer not to reply at all?
