I am newly retired and want to check out Spain for a month in Aug/Sept. I think I'm interested in the Costa Bravo or Barcelona area. Would like to rent something short term, one month,small for one person. Is this possible? All advise welcomed. I only speak a little Spanish and want to improve it.

yes it's possible - although in Barcelona you're as like as not going to pick up Catalán rather than Spanish......

a one month let will be at holiday rates though - & August will almost certainly be much more expensive than September

Yeah there's loads of apartment rental sites for barcelona, but yeah as the post above says they'll be holiday prices and not cheap.
