Hi All,

I've been working on a 457 in sydney for around 4 years and will be applying for permanent residency through the employer nominated scheme this winter.

I am also thinking of starting a little side consultancy business, that I would work on in my spare time.

There is nothing in my work contract to say I can't do this. However, does the 457 visa prohibit this? Could I register the business as long as I don't make any money from it untill I have PR?

Thanks.

If you do a VEVO printout you can find the follows ;

8107- Work limitation: The visa held by the visa holder was granted either to allow them to be employed by a particular employer, or to undertake specific activities in Australia other than employment.

If the visa was granted to allow the visa holder to be employed in Australia by a particular employer, the visa holder must:
continue to be employed by that employer;
not work for any other employer;
not be self-employed; and
not undertake any work that is inconsistent with the purpose of the visa.

If the visa was granted to allow the visa holder to undertake specific activities in Australia other than employment, the visa holder must:
continue to undertake those activities;
not undertake any activities that are inconsistent with the purpose of the visa;
not be self-employed; and
not undertake work for another person that is inconsistent with the purpose of the visa.
