Hi,

We are on a 457 visa and have been in Australia for 15 months. My wife is 6 weeks pregnant and we are trying to understand options and costs for the pregnancy via public or private option. We do not have Medicare and have a mid- level insurance with Bupa.

Bupa has been unable to provide us with any meaningful information. Does anyone have an estimate of what percentage of costs will Bupa cover for all doctor's visits and the delivery versus the costs to go through a private hospital.

Also, we live in Kirribilli in North Sydney, looking for recommendations on doctors as well.

Thanks All

hi cletus

we are in same boat. bupa/hba should cover for pregnancy and the waiting period only 12 months - as i use to be with bupa then the company changed to qbe (when we moved to qbe the waiting period waived as we use the same broker before)

its good if you get hold of the product data sheet from bupa...you can find all your answers there. am pretty sure pregnancy covered with 457 compatible insurance and if you are covered, please use the private hospitals facilities as theres no diff in terms of out-of-pocket expenses for us.

we are 9 weeks last friday and our obs/gyn is dr.indika alahakoon. most of the obs/gyn do not have ultrasound facility/qualification....so its better to have all in one....dr.indika one of them.

congrats and good luck !
