I wasn't sure where to post this....here or the packages sticky.

I was just wondering: if both myself and my husband will be seeking work in Dubai, preferably with our current employers, would we get 2 packages (rent, school fees (hopefully) etc) or just 1??????

Just curious and something I was thinking about on the drive into work just now.
thanks

You would have to lie to them about your husband's situation. They will know he is working as he wont be on your sponsorship (and vice versa) and it will depend on how they pay your allowances. If they pay the school fees to the school and pay the rent direct to the landlord it wont work. If both employers pay your allowances to you in cash, and they are no way connected, you might get away with it, but they will ask questions.

Thanks for that. We will wait and see what happens but I was just curious.

This is something I had not really thought about before, until recently with a conditional job offer I had falling through. In that offer the contract stated that there was an allowance but was not restricted for use such as rent etc. This would have been a big plus for me with my partner being a teacher and we had planned to use the accommodation she would be provided and I would get the full amount each month as stated in the contract without having to use any of it towards rent.

I had another interview recently and I have been informed I'll be receiving an offer soon so I will have to wait and see what that one says with regards to allowances!

My wife and I both work.

My package is my package, hers is hers.

We both get the benefits of our own packages

The remuneration you receive should be based on the entitlements for your role, not your marital status. Most companies will give you the option to receive allowances as a monthly cash benefit these days - it is much less of an admin headache for them than paying your school and landlord directly. This is all part of the move away from traditional "expat" packages that I keep banging on about!

The only area that this might cause a problem is medical insurance, as technically you shouldn't be covered by two separate insurers (you will be asked to declare this on claim forms should you need treatment, and whichever insurer you claim from may pursue the other for part liability). There are a couple of ways you could get round this - either both opt to be covered under the company policy which has the best benefits, or opt to be covered by your individual employers but do not add each other as dependents. If you chose the first route and wanted to be really mercenary you could also ask the company to pay you a cash equivalent of the premium cost for your coverage had you joined their scheme.

Wow.....2 jobs, 2 packages... that would be sweet! Thanks for all the info.

My husband is keen to start looking at jobs opportunities soon. We just recently moved as he got a new job and we were living too far away. I'm only just settling in now after 3 months and he is talking about moving at the start of next year. Excited/scared in 1!!!!!!!!!!
