Hi All, I need help identifying ways I can get 2 or 3-month long rentals in Spain. The period is too short to use real estate agents and too long and cost prohibitive for using AirB&B. Any guidance will be appreciated. Areas of interest is Northern Spain Balboa, DSS, etc. Thanks. - Robert

I don't know specifically about Northern Spain, but here in the South, 2-3 months are popular as winter lets, usually between October and March/April. This is regarded as low season and householders want to get some return on their property, but without jeopardising the extremely lucrative summer lets, where a property rents for 5-6 times the low season. If you want to rent for a few months in the summer, it just becomes a tourist let and you pay accordingly. You sometimes get a discount for renting more than a few weeks on AirBnB and other letting platforms.

Thanks Joppa! I am actually NOT interested in summer lets but rather "shoulder seasons" which are typically autumn and spring. How do I go about knowing about those lets? Where do these owners advertise or what is the process?

It's still a holiday let as opposed ot a long term let.

Take a look at our FAQs thread at the top of the forum. There are some links to online letting platforms. It's often worth approaching owners with an offer, even if they don't specifically state that they are open to two or three month lets.

I wonder if you realise that in Spain, and the Spanish islands, the shoulder seasons are very popular? Northern Europeans who can choose their own dates to holiday tend to visit then. We all have at least moderately fair skin which burns in extreme heat, hence we avoid visiting in the summer but we can enjoy Spain at all other times. People aim to come sometime in early autumn, say 15 September, stay for up to 90 days and then go home for Xmas. Spring visitors start around mid-February with the carnivals etc.

Tourist hôtels often close for the period after 2 November until a few days before Xmas and then close again shortly after 6 January, hence you need to look for Aparthotels or Apartementos Turisticos. These may well be open all year. Check out the reviews and then before booking try and negotiate a discount: a commercial aparthotel would probably be more willing than a private owner.

I'd not write off airbnb if you going off summer months with many airbnbers offering hefty discounts on longer stays. I used them off season in Alicante when looking for a property to buy and got around 50% off summer prices.
