Just registered here but thought I would pop in and say a courteous hello.
We’re a family of 4 who are considering a move to Cyprus but will of course research this as much as possible and looking around her seems a great place to start.
We’re in our 40’s so not retiring soon so work will be high on our list of priorities as will schooling but we do however have a bit of a base out in Cyprus already with family on my wife’s side living in Larnaca and Paphos but they may be a little bit biased!
We just done feel that UK has anything left to offer us and we want a better way of life for ourselves and kids.
As yet undecided if we should rent our house out over here to subsidise our relocation and of course give us something to go back to if things don’t work out.
So I guess my two first questions are :
How is the work situation out there at the moment –I understand its not good but we’re not really career driven-I’m an office manager and my wife works for Thomas Cook.

Also, can I enquire regarding the poliitical situation as it now stands? Would this this be something to be concerned about or is it never likely to be resolved..?(Apologies if it not openly discussed on this forum and I will edit this if required)

Many thanks if anyone can offer any early information to give us food for thought and I look forward to speaking to you all soon

Hello and welcome to the forum
I think your general outlook and survivability here would depend on the ages of your kids with regard to whether they could enter the state system (see the Schooling thread for pros and cons of State vs private) – your job prospects (things are pretty dire here at the moment) and whether you’re prepared to weather the inevitable culture shock of moving here. Reading the posts on the forum will give you a flavour of all views. I think there is a consensus that Cyprus is not a favourable destination for families that need to work. Also bear in mind that there is no NHS here so medical insurance is a must (and an added expense).
The forum isn’t generally a place where the possible solution to the Cyprus problem is discussed very often – not sure why – it seems to be a perennial topic elsewhere however, but I’m not aware of any specific ‘rules’ here. Personally I don’t think there will be a solution in the short to medium term.
