house repairs

hello I've got a house to repair - i.e new tiles to be replaced on the floors, painting walls, bathroom ceiling to be repaired, new bathroom to be fitted, kitchen cabinets/sink to be fitted. Do I need a permit to do this? I read that you only need a permit if you are making structural changes...
