Dependent Visa

Hi everyone,

Kindly could anyone let me know if it's mandatory to add spouse name on passport for dependent visa for USA?

I am going through my company for work

We although have registered marriage certificate.

Your insight would be very helpful

Thanks

Someone accompanying a visa holder to the US either needs their own dependent visa (based on the main visa holder) or a visa under their own right.

(don't know what you mean by adding spouse name on passport??)

I believe the OP may be referring to the "need" to change her passport into her "married name." As long as she has proof of the marriage (marriage certificate/license or similar) it shouldn't be necessary. Taking the husband's family name is not required in the US for a married woman.

In many Asian and Middle Eastern countries, there is a space for the name of a spouse to be endorsed in passports after marriage.

In India, I believe this goes for both genders, as far as I know. In Pakistan, Bangladesh and many other countries, men and women both have their father's name stated in their passports as long as they are single and this gets changed to husband's name after marriage in case of women.

I am not sure whether it's mandatory as as such or more like a strongly encouraged custom.

I doubt that American authorities care about the endorsement as long as OP has a valid marriage certificate but really, as we do not know which country we are talking about, it may well be a must if OP is required by their home country's law to have the endorsement.
