Default Potential move to US from Melbourne, AU

Hi all,
This is my first post on this informative forum.

My wife and I are interested i moving to the US. After travelling around the US for a month late last year we just felt right there and what to make the move over.

I don't have many tertiary qualifications, bar a couple business admin certificates but I do have alot of industry knowledge in mattress construction. But as I said, I do not current have a degree or even a diploma in any field.

One thing on my side is that I do have alot of liquid assets and I am very business minded. I have been looking to buy a business in Australia for sometime but feel I could get more for my money and live more comfortably if I was to buy a business in my price range in the US. Otherwise my partner has been working in real estate for sometime and property investment is another avenue we have been looking at taking. Half of our money is in liquid assets and the other invested in property which I would be willing to sell if it meant I was granted entry to the US on a permanent basis.

Can anyone indicate what the likelyhood of me and my partner obtaining permanent residency in the US? What visas should we be looking at and what can we do to improve our chances to gaining permanent residency?

If you are looking to obtain an investment visa the following experience by another Aussie might help:

Without either specific skills, degrees or an employer to sponsor you, the investment route is one way of going.

Isn't there a special visa for Aussies -the E3 maybe?

Work your way through investor visa information on travel.state.gov. I find it easier to navigate then uscis.gov which should be your next stop. Familiarize yourself with requirements and options. Use the search function and read what others have experienced.

The short version - find an employer but with the skill sets you posted here it will be hard. Invest in a company - the requirements are stringent, your stay depends on regular renewals, kids are on their own at 21 unless you invest a minimum of 500k at risk.

One step at a time.

Thank you both for giving me some direction.

Reading that thread on the relocation of an australian business to the US was informative and is a great base to start form.

Just after opinions here, but what would be the likelyhood of obtaining an E2 visa based on the purchase of an established business in the US? Say just as an example with $200k invested.
