Hi!

US citizens here moving to France. My husband applied for a talent passport - long stay visa 6 weeks ago. My children and I submitted application packets for a visitor visas that we were told would be changed to a long stay visa once my husband was approved.

I thought we would’ve received them by now. Any stories to share on how long it took for anyone here? We are due to fly out next week! I’m so stressed.

A visitor visa and a passeport talent are both kinds of "long stay visas." It can get confusing when people say they have applied for a "long stay visa" as it's the particular type of visa that can affect how long the application process takes.

There does seem to be a form of tracking tool available now for finding out where in the process your application is: https://france-visas.gouv.fr/en_US/web/france-visas/track-your-application-status

And some sorts of visas can take longer than others to get. The passeport talent is relatively new (and has a variety of "sub-types" which vary as to requirements and processing times) so it's difficult to say. Also, this is the middle of the "summer rush" for visas - for those looking to move in the fall for the big "Rentrée" - or back to school and work after the summer holidays.

You should probably look into what it would take to postpone your flight by a bit. (But first check the tracking information to see where your visas are in the queue.)

Thank you! My husband has really handled most of this, so I don’t know all the details. Glad to know the visitor is considered long stay as well. We have been checking the status - but it hasn’t changed from the received status. My husband sent an inquiry e-mail to the embassy last night, so we’re hoping to hear something early this week so we can take appropriate action for our flight. We figured it may be a busy time being late summer for visas. Thanks for your help!

I assume that by applying to passport talent visa this means he has a contract and some approval documents that he sent with his request to the consulate?
usually the whole family is included in this process... there is no 'passport talent visa' per say, you all receive long stay visa that when you come, you prepare your dossier to the prefecture directly to obtain your titre de sejour (I am talking here about passport alent a.k.a. carte bleu europeene or european blue card)

I can give my experience 3 years ago. No saying what it is like now. I am here on Passeport Talent (Salarie en mission) visa. The whole process that I (or my company) had to follow was:
- Apply for work permit, which took about 5 weeks
- Once work permit received, apply for long stay visa (3 months duration), which normally takes 2 weeks but had to wait an week extra due to delays in getting appointment at embassy.
- All up it was a bit over 8 weeks (16 July to 15 September) from starting the process to getting the visa stamps in our passports.
- On arrival in France we then started the process of applying for the residency visa, which took 3 months. My wife got hers because of my visa status and by default got a visa that also allowed her to work here.

Point to note, we were told not to enter France before the start date of the long stay visa. In the application for this visa we specified the date of arrival (included copies of air tickets in application)

Hope this helps.

Good luck!

EDIT: FYI our residency visa (Carte de Sejour) was for 3 years, so expires at the end of September so we are hading back to Australia then.
