Default Ageing population in Spain - This village specifically caters for it

Very interesting piece in BBC News - Europe highlighting how one village, Pescueza over in Extremadura
specifically caters for an ageing population in Spain.

That's really nice to see.

Our town (pop.5500 of which 25% are over 65) also does a lot of things for older people - subsidised meals, day centre, free bus service, and all sorts of free activities and excursions - but I like the idea of making pavements more user-friendly. Some of ours are quite treacherous especially when wet.

I don't know how general this is, but I think Spain is a much nicer place to grow old in than England. Older people are treated with respect, not regarded as a nuisance or completely ignored by younger people. I love seeing teenagers taking their abuelitos for a walk in the evening. I may have to adopt one soon!

Er ... I confess I am one of those. Especially when the pavements are blocked by people who have stopped for a nice sociable chat.

Yes, I posted a link to an article about that a while ago, but can't find it now.
It's in the news a lot now as it's the summer and for some reason European news programmes lack global, political news in this season?? and this fits the agenda as light happy news.

This village is about an hour away from us. Might have to check myself in when the time comes.
Having said that, the elderly here, in my village, have lots of activities and seem to be well looked after
