Default Question for Satellite man

We have a Movistar+ box; T11.
Last few weeks it’s wont record full programmes get an error message. Sometimes it switches on and off at will!
Freezes

Question

It’s two years old, how long should these boxes last. I’m trying to speak to Movistar but having issues trying to explain the problem

Any advice as to what technical language to use when talking to them would be appreciated

Thanks.

"get an error message"· - what is the error message - any error code?
Perhaps the hard drive has failed inside the box, hence inability to record.
Can happen with hard drives, especially if you get power cuts

"Sometimes it switches on and off at will! Freezes" - could be linked to the above, or means some form of power issue inside the box.

Unplugging it each night can cause drive failure, and component failure. Leaving in standby is better for the drive and components...

Always ensure that sensitive electrical equipment is supported in the event of a loss of mains power by using UPSs. I currently have two on this system, one for the PC and Monitor and one for all the ancillaries (printer, disk drives [20TB],)etc. There is another UPS for the suegra's PC and monitor plus the TV two floors above here and SWMBO's is a laptop, so is protected anyway.

indeed though I just used as excuse to get better box however I reckon thunderstorms will be slightly more frequent in Spain than the once every 2 years we got in London

Yes a bit more often, but it depends on where, in Spain, you are. We live in a 'hoya' that is like a bowl surrounded by mountains and most weather passes us by because clouds have to get over the surrounding mountains to get into the bowl and that keeps most of them and their precipitation, thunder and lightning out. However once in, they can be a b*gger to get rid of.
