Default Car needed in Valencia

I'm coming over later in June to complete a house purchase and need to start thinking about a car... something of medium size and maybe hatchback would be better. Diesel as its cheaper even with the green issues. Mechanics are more important than looks but don't want a shed. Air con a must... anyone know of any private sales or reliable garage in Valencia area and better still if near Lliria area. Thanks :]

When I was in the area, the only place that I saw anything half decent was DM autos, but that could have been because they had a better bodyshop than some others.
Everything around the city and surroundings was overpriced. I travelled to Murcia to buy my first one and Xativa for the second.

I think I'm right in saying that diesel and petrol are almost the same now and in the future diesel will be going up through taxes due to environmental issues, although there will be loads of diesel cars going cheap second hand soon

I'm planning on around 5 months of the year in Spain and starting to wonder whether i would be better buying a left-hand car in the Uk, I know several English people who have lived in Spain almost full time and still have british right-hand cars, the only issue is that i would have to drive back once a year for the MOT... Has anyone else done it this way?

There are literally thousands of 'garages' selling cars just like that. A dealer has to offer a warranty whereas a private seller won't.

Hi,

I can highly recommend Paddock Motors in Riba Roja they are close to Lliria. The service there is second to none and is of paramount importance to them. Nice to come across in this day and age. Check out their Google reviews.

I am very happy i purchased through them as they literally helped with everything including registering of the car, ITV etc.. which was included in the sale. I also managed to get my back windows tinted and parking sensors installed in the negotiation.

Ask for a gentleman called Paco who speaks good enough english and is a real gent.

Hope that helps

You can't "live in Spain almost full time" and legally drive a British car here without doing certain things after certain times ie change to Spanish plates after 6 months. People do it, but it's not legal. After Brexit....

Thank you to everyone for the input, has anyone purchased a left-hand drive car in the uk and then changed the plates over when in Spain, I've seen a few cars being sold in the UK from Holland/Germany/France and even a few from Spain which will have all the correct lights etc ... I'm starting to think this may be a better way to do it

Left-hand cars in the UK aren't as cheap as they used to be, you might be better buying a cheap Spanish registered car once you've got your NIE and Spanish address sorted. Do be aware that if you buy a Spanish registered car and remain a UK resident, as your post suggests, you cannot legally drive your Spanish registered car in the UK.

We use our UK registered car in Spain, we are UK residents and stay less than 90 days consecutively and under 182 days in total. You cannot use the local ITV stations and must drive the car to the UK for it's MOT. If your car's MOT runs out while you're in Spain you can either arrange to matriculate it onto Spanish plates or trailer it back to the UK....You cannot drive it.

EDIT *** It can be quite expensive to have a UK car matriculated onto Spanish plates. A friend of ours has just paid nearly €2000 including car modifications, taxes & admin'.
