Default Canada has best rep. in the world.

Here's an article i seen on yahoo according to an international poll Canada has the best reputation in the world. Canada has best reputation in the world: study - Yahoo! News

I know on the gulfnews website they have a special report on Canada and not too long ago i hired a few guys from Bangladesh to clean and paint my flat. While i was talking to the head guy he was asked me where i was from and i told him Canada and his eyes popped open and asked me why i would leave there to come to this place. I told him my reasons and he still looked at me with disbelief. He stated he had an aunt in Canada and was dreaming on going there one day.

Just curious as to what everybody thinks about Canada. Both Canadians and non-Canadians.

As for myself, i don't miss Canada. I miss my family and it will always be a second home i guess. But i have traveled and lived in many parts of the world and i don't have a desire to go back there and live permanently. On the plus side i love the scenery and the different landscapes and still want to venture to the Yukon and NWT before i get too old.

Canada is a GR8 land!

A lot of people respect Canada because of how things work there. Canadians might pay a lot of taxes, but these taxes are translated into good Public Services. If you were born and raised in Canada you might think this is a natural thing.

But in many places out there, the things we take for granted are not the reality out there!

Our Health system back home might not be perfect, but it works. How many of those unfortunate people had and still have access to treatments ? I remember very well having all those top notch scans and did not have to pay a cent. This is a good thing. In lot of countries health is not accessible to the people.

The difference between poor and rich is not that BIG compared to other countries. People make around the same (or end up after paying taxes).

The WELL BEING in Canada is top notch. Check the policies for welfare. They will take care of you thanks to the EI we all had to pay.

Crime rate is low. Corruption is low.

The only downside is the political system I think.

We might be here for a short term in the UAE, but in my mind, there are only few places to live and enjoy a decent quality of life... one of these place is without doubt Canada

What I think of when I think of Canada........

Good place, established by the British! Can't be bad. I also think of French people, cold weather, bears, salmon, and snow.

I think of Canada as the only real competition to New Zealand as far as scenery, friendly people, cultural sensitivity and availability/affordability of outdoor activities goes...
On the other hand, I have worked with firefighters on 'exchange' (where you shift to the others house and work his job but keep your own home country wage) and Im here to tell you, CANADA ROCKS! you get awesome money for work that is basically breadline level in NZ.
I'd love to visit and I believe I would love to live there?

You can immigrate to Canada I guess. Check the list of occupations in demand and with some luck go for it!!! If your occupation is there you can apply.

Another Aussie there will just make Canada a more "Aussiesome" place to live!!!

I guess I do/did take a lot of things for granted in Canada. But for me living there was always a bit boring. I know there are many things to do and I did a lot of it and still would like to do a lot more there, but it is what it is. I for one, never complained about the health care as i never had to pay a dime for anything and i had broken bones, sprained ankles, been in a couple of small car accidents.

But i do agree with some of your points, the gap between rich and poor is not bad. I was in the middle and had friends on both sides and when we would hang out together you wouldn't know who was the poorer one or the richer one just by looking at them or hanging around them for a bit. You really had to get to know them to find out.
And as for as the political system goes, i think its a mess. A complete mess. I actually think its a joke.

But one thing i do like about it especially living in both Toronto and Vancouver and visiting other parts of the country i love that fact that i can get a taste for so many other people's cultures without leaving the borders. Especially the restaurants. My wife and i used to visit tonnes of them before we left. Thai, Chinese, Jamaican, Mediterranean, Japanese etc.
