Weirdly enough it says a lot about the pearl industry but nothing about the fact it was nicknamed "The Pirate Coast".

Gotta love the media spin.

They used wind tunnels. Also I was speaking to my old sponsor once and he told me that the Dubai of old was not as hot as today. Before all the cars, glass buildings and ac units pumping out hot air.

I visited the first time in 1984 and must have missed the start of the tourist boom! Not much here then at all unless you were comparing it to Muscat or something, even in 1991 there was a lot more but still not a place I would have spent my holiday. Big change now though, it has really grown and I'm enjoying my stay.
