In my case, i shipped way more of my personal items than I really needed here. Tools being a lot of the items. Because of that I am a very popular neighbor.
So far I have lent out quite a few tools to help out my neighbors. I seems like most of my Filipino neighbors don't own any tools!! However they do know how to use them and are quick to return them. I have also been giving away some of my stuff when these neighbors come by and give me food that they cook. Bartering works real nice here.
I get the feeling that these neighbors really do care about each other and now me too.
The only thing I have noticed that is a little weird is that a lot of these neighbors have dogs, but keep them in small cages on their property and hardly EVER let these poor dogs out.
Has anyone else noticed this going on? I have been tempted to leave an anonymous note on the cages asking why they are torturing these dogs, but i don't want to upset the harmony we have as neighbors. Some of these cages barely let the dog turn around. I was told by a few of my friends that they use these dogs simply as security.
Any suggestions?
Welcome to the forum Steelcleat, hope you enjoy and participate and based on your first post, great input, ty. Yep I hear you with regards to tools especially when tradies are onsite/involved,,,, what are you doing, why are you doing it like that? Here, use this, thank you sir.

95% of our direct, even indirect neighbours are foreigners from all walks of life and from a plethora of countries with Filipino partners, mostly reserved as all of the asawas/partners spent 5 to 30 years in a first world country and retired back to PH. and quickly sus you out as we do them. To date great neighbours from a well researched (3 years before we purchased) place to retire to. Going back to our K9 friends? None have cages or chains, roam freely within their property and nary a bark once they also see you are living on their turf. I have commented on this myself many times on different expat sites why the chained/caged dog that only lives for 3 to 5 years instead of 10 to 15 years in a humane loving family situation, has mange and social issues/problems/savage. A sad life for "mans best friend".

Bartering? Though we don't know the value of what you are giving away for a 100 peso feed I would suggest to be careful but given your post would say you are a thinking person and street wise.

Cheers, Steve.

Hey Marky32---go ahead and give the Philippines a try. You will never know if you like it or not if you don't go there. Don't let anybody fool you into thinking it is a piece of cake. It is not. You will need to do a lot of adjustment. I am from the USA and we have laws here that are not enforced there. Noise is the biggest thing that bothered me. There is no peace and quiet unless you live in a gated community that does not allow noise in the subdivision. then you need to be off the main roads far enough you don't hear the traffic. then you need to get use to the people driving. there is hardly any laws obeyed there while driving.

With all that said, I think you should give it a try.

WARNING!!!! Do not step off the curb anywhere or the cross streets without looking or you will get ran over!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure the OP is contemplating the responses to date both positive and negative and is surely asking him/herself many and varied questions, frivolous, economics or simply options.
I have to come back to the simple "visit, try, taste, view and as a single person with limited or perhaps unlimited bucks would be looking further afield.
Reminds me of another post I replied to (negative) where fat, ugly westerners chose Asian or north eastern European countries to ply their needs because they couldn't/were no good within their own abode, obviously these "degenerates" were perhaps over the wants and needs by the ever demanding,,,,, no different to dealing with snooty demanding neighbours.

Perhaps the OP has ran off and deserted us in favour of a flight and savour the delight; to which country?Time will tell or perhaps too hard.

The OP has been given info and now acts accordingly, hopefully.

Neighbours no matter the country are simply that and what one gives will be returned no different to a workplace environment, ones tolerances, humility, assertiveness etc, etc.

Cheers, Steve.
