Smile meeting place to meet ex pats

Hi,
My husband and I are moving to Paphos end of August and would like to meet some ex-pats who could help us to settle in, and generally give us some info on getting fixed up with doctor, where to go shopping, joining various clubs, getting mail box. Basically just a friendly face. We also have a golden retriever who we have decided to take with us as we could not leave her behind and it would be helpful to know the rights and wrongs about what to expect with taking her. I would appreciate any help. We are over on 18th May to look at renting a house for a year and like the look of Stoumpi/Stoumbi any advice again would be appreciated.
thanks
Karen

Hi Karen,
There are several threads about dogs in Cyprus on the forum.

http://www.expatforum.com/expats/cyp...lood-test.html
http://www.expatforum.com/expats/cyp...gs-paphos.html
This government website is also useful.

Travelling with pets Defra

If you trawl through you will find more.

Also as far as living in Stroumbi is concerned, although it is quite a long way from Paphos it has a small number of expats lving there and recently new facilities such as a supermarket/bakery, a new restaurant etc have been built so it dosnt feel as remote as it did.
It is also roughly halfway between Paphos and Polis so ideal for getting to places.
There are many other villages which are closer to Paphos but still have the traditional Cypriot village feel and are closer for doctors, the hospital and of course shops.

Regards
Veronica

Default Hiya

Bet you are looking forward to the move ?

I live in Kallepia ( not far from Stroumbi ) - great little Village and good Village President which is so important !
We have a Dr visit once every 2 weeks and Get most medicens Free ( But they expect a photocopy of your Alien Reg every time + Passport etc ! )
IF i need a Dr sooner i go to Lemona on a Monday ! If you are under 65 they charge 2 Euros !
Little shop opposite Papantonios sort out Driving Licences / Passport etc for a 20% charge !

I find that living up in the Village its much less Humid in the Summer , Services are " local Prices " - IF i need Plumbing etc fixed - i call Nicos ( Muhktha ) he gets a fair person in to fix it !

We have Free Greek Classes twice a week , Coffee is 50 cents - good wine 2 euros ! Fresh Veg from Trucks 3 times a week ...And House Prices or rentals ..less than 50% Pafos Prices !
I have a very large 3 Bed Place - Bathroom and Shower room , Car Port , large Garden - 250 euros a month rental yet have pals near Coral bay paying 600+ fpr similar places !

Mike

Hi, I brought my 2 Springers over in February and used PBS, based in Crawley, they were excellent, I also got the dog crates from them. Everything went according to plan and the dogs were fine at this end. I flew from Manchester and the dogs were on the same flight. I was dealt with by Emelye Bunny, nothing was too much trouble.

Hi Mike,
Really enjoyed reading your comments, reminds me of the Cyprus I knew back in the mid 60's. Hope hubby and I get somewhere like that when we eventually come over. (about 18 months now)

Be nice to meet you !

Wise folk tend to ask the local; Muhktah ( village President ) if any nice Speetis are available - his word is Law ! i do not bother with Rental Agreements and even things like Alien Cards etc that ask for Rental Details my President just signs saying i live in his Village and pay rent !

Mike
