when I lived in Davao city area I never had a problem with geckos. Very rarely did I see one. I never really thought about them much. But, of course when I rented the apartment I immediately went to the hardware and bought door sweeps to seal the bottom of doors. Bought weather stripping to seal around doors and windows. Also, I kept most windows shut. I use my aircon. So, I never had cracks for them to get into the apartment.

I didn't live the way most live there. I didn't want roaches, ants, spiders and geckos in my APARTMENT.

Have a listen to their call on the link, perhaps you have them but have only heard them.

Cheers, Steve.

Unfortunately I haven't heard that gecko, just the common ones with the clicks.

This species is poached for the medicinal trades in parts of Asia.[10] The tokay gecko is an ingredient in Traditional Chinese medicine known as Ge Jie (蛤蚧). It is believed to nourish the kidneys and lungs, beliefs that are not substantiated by medical science. The animal remains highly sought after in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and other parts of Asia with Chinese communities, to the point where unscrupulous merchants have taken to disfiguring monitor lizards with prosthetics to pass them off as colossal tokay gecko specimens.

The tokay gecko is quickly becoming a threatened species in the Philippines due to indiscriminate hunting. Collecting, transporting and trading in geckos without a license can be punishable by up to twelve years in jail and a fine of up to Php 1,000,000.00 under Republic Act 9147 in addition to other applicable international laws.[11] However, the trade runs unchecked due to the sheer number of illegal traders and reports of lucrative deals. Chinese buyers and other foreign nationals are rumored to pay thousands of dollars for large specimens, because of their alleged medicinal value or as commodities in the illegal wildlife trade

People still buy anything for "magical" cures even though there is no scientific proof that it works.
You are fortunate to have some on your property.

100% agree John, very fortunate to have these here, 3 so far. Ben also advises that he has seen another one at the other end of the house some 12 months ago but probably one of the same group that I have been watching.
Maybe the magical qualities of these Tokay's are why some countries have minute infections and no deaths for some 2 months with C-19? Or perhaps media manipulation. Regardless we have a supply of the miracle cure if we also ever have a pandemic, a common cold or find the need for increasing sexual libido.
We will share our space with them and their smaller cousins for the foreseeable future.

BTW thanks for listening to their calls on Wiki.

Cheers, Steve.

Looks like we have plenty of the Tokay geckos, I was watering the garden early evening last night and heard the classic call/bark from one across the road in the neighbours house. This morning in the early dawn light I found 2 baby Tokays about 4 inches long on the gable wall, they weren't too fond of the torch light though and slowly moved to cover in the roof. I have also noticed less of the regular small geckos both in and outdoors, maybe food for the big Tokays?

Cheers, Steve.
