She didn't get counsel in the US but was smart enough to get herself a ticket and spend 20 years in America... And she's 66 years old and? So I guess the husband also got surprised and he's only been married to her 10 years, he'll be able to get her a marriage Visa, but in order to fix her immigration woes (no more excuses or pity) she has to leave and come back on a valid passport and Visa... So pretty much like anyone else.

And good luck as an expat if your caught overstaying your Visa... Notice the article leaves out how she gained gain attention of US Immigration, traffic ticket or?

It is a shame this lady gets deported from the USA when she is an upstanding person in her community. If she was a mexican, latino or spanish from south and central american crossing our sothern border to get a free ride on social services that is ok!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT A PURE MESS THIS COUNTRY HAS BECOME!

MCA I agree. There is more to the story other than the US Immigration folks simply being "bullies." My wife waited a year before being allowed entry and her green card then we had to wait another 3 years for her citizenship. We were married in the Philippines so she was not eligible for the "engagement" visa.

This story above is the PhilStar and so much missing as usual and always the victim they don't know how to navigate our Immigration services or she was actually here on a work Visa and couldn't' afford a (Fixer) or lawyer to handle everything for her and should have been given free counsel so now America is expected to help with Visa with Immigration lawyers on Immigration issues... and was she fired or just quit after a few months of work? Visa then expired and she overstayed, you have to leave and come back on another Visa just like they require of us here so this should never have made the news it's slam towards our Immigration laws which are very lenient.

Agree what a mess on our Southern border and in this case those that fly to the US and just disappear off the grid... Well until they get into a civil dispute, ticket or a church scam for money "Joke"... who knows but shouldn't we also deport those that break our Immigration laws? it's something like 40% and does a plane ticket grant you US citizenship, this is what happened and now we complain how harsh we are.

Her husband is a pastor and probably has enough money to fix her immigration (baggage) woes.

I agree m.c.a.

Our immigration system is a joke in the USA. I think all should get deported when not here legally. The point I am making is most people from other countries get deported if caught. The ones coming across the southern border from mexico, central and south america has cost us here more then a trillion dollars through the years because of our government allowing them to cross illegally and stay here. We even got cities and states that is a safe haven for them even when they are criminals. We finally have a president that is trying to put a stop to this crap.

Actually most don't get deported the end up getting released into the general population and if no crimes committed never to be seen again until they break the law, we don't have the resources to find them until they make a mistake. Remember there used to be a reward of I think 1000 pesos if a Philippine citizen reported a foreigner overstaying I sure do.

Heck we have a member on this forum that was deported for trying to follow the rules but ended up scammed by reputable travel agencies or individuals working for these travel agencies? Who knows and nobody seems to care "fake Bureau of Immigration stamps or expired ones" and from what I remember not much is done about these dirty scammers you have to hire a lawyer and yes the expat got Black Listed and had to fix the Immigration mess I haven't forgotten that I feel sorry for my fellow expats who have hard earned pensions, marry and follow this countries Immigration rules only to be set up and deported, what about his family, you can be deported for simple dispute over a rental contract, you don't like the bad service you want out of your lease or they want you to sign another lease Lol... Black mail.

Safer bet to use the PBI or it's Satellite Offices for your Visa stamps, it might not be possible in some area's.

She knew that she was not in the USA legally. Therefore she was subject to deportation, blacklisting and denied re-entry.

I know of no where that getting bad advice from a lawyer is grounds to allow someone to break the law.

I also feel that the fact that she was a pastor's wife should not have any bearing on her case, she broke the law and paid the penalty. Case closed.

Yes, the lack of common sense is astounding. You either have a border or you don't.

The last line of the article was amusing, and wrong:

"The US deported more than 256,000 people in 2018 as part of US President Donald Trumpís crackdown on immigrants."

It is missing a key word, "ILLEGAL". There is no crackdown on legal immigrants.
