Default Finally made it.

Well, Finally back in PH and this time retirement. (for me not Bengie) After years of planning as many here are aware I am sitting here on the front verandah watching the waves roll in. Very different to the 50 acre property back in OZ where our view was rolling hills and mountains.
Our shipping container arrives in Manila on the 13th and delivered here about a week later, fingers crossed there are no hiccups with customs. BIR clearance came through yesterday.

Ben arrived here 2 weeks before I did and did all the legwork for fridge, washing machine, another bed and basic needs.

Looking forward to the next stage in our lives, both successes and dramas .

Cheers, Steve.

Thanks Mark, been over 5 years since we lived here (Manila and never again) and now the new adventure begins, lots of work as the tenant we had for 2 years left a mess as in part burnt garbage piles (plastic, glass, styrofoam etc about 20 different half burnt piles and filthy walls even though we have garbage collection every week he and his kids lived like pigs, crayon and texta scribbles all over the walls "scrubbing scrubbing" before repaint but all in all great to be back and as said looking forward to the many challenges.

I'm sure you will hear more as time rolls on.

Cheers, Steve.

Wow, 20 piles of garbage it sounds like a dump yard business, our In-laws do this they take in garbage nobody wants for money and then later on torture us by burning it for days.

I think these garbage trucks require at least 25 - 50 pesos per bag but it sounds like he tried to save money for his ciggeretts and beer.

Well Mark if only that were so, fortunately not. We met with the local Barangay captain yesterday (nice bloke BTW) and the garbage is collected every Sunday and costs 20 pesos per month, the tenant has never paid them and apparently dealt with is own sh1t that I am now cleaning up, along with paying his last power bill so they didn't cut off the power, as we say more fun in the Philippines.

Ben sat through a 2 hour seminar in Luelco today as well as supplying absolute deed of sale, copy of title, copies of I.D's, 2 off 2" x 2" photos and other insignificant paraphernalia just to get the power in his name,,,,,,,, god help us. All the fun of the fare, very glad I kept out of the circus.

Cheers, Steve.

And I wouldn't be to shocked to find out that your former tenants are probably buddy buddy with the Barangay workers, neighbors all drinking buddies. For sure it takes an unbelievable amount of proof not only to hook up power but open a bank account or Internet connection.

I don't think this guy was well liked judging by the Barangay captain and neighbours comments, he is a foreigner like 90% that live in the area.

We went for "Globe at home" for internet as advised by the locals (the PLDT service here is rubbish according to locals) and seems to work a treat so far, no waiting for connections or tedious paperwork but unfortunately it is post paid so no direct debit etc.

Well back to scrubbing walls before it gets too hot.

Cheers, Steve.

Then the follow on lmao. Apart from small idiosyncrasies with local trades there in lies many stories.
Today we enquired and asked to connect satellite TV. "Yes sir we can install that this afternoon" Bengie organised all this.

They arrived,,,,,,, 4 of them, 2 that actually did the work and 2 to watch. They wanted to install the sat dish on our neighbouring 8 ft high wall, I said no, why not install on the gable end of the house then you won't need to do an underground cable for 9 metres then cable up the wall etc. No sir that is the best place,,,,, what about on the roof I ask? Sorry sir we don't have a ladder!!!!! Guess what guys, I have one and I would like it installed on the roof please. No problem and thank you for the ladder.
So they install the dish and run the cable down the roof and then want to come in under the eaves,,,,,, Why can't you take it through the roof and feed to the three outlets I asked? yes sir we can do that,,,, Thank you I said, I also suggested they bring a ladder and think about what they are doing and consulting the purchaser before making their own decisions and I'm sure that fell on deaf ears.

BTW I'm about to go up on the roof to make sure they sealed the penetrations.

Cheers, Steve.

Good thing you supervised that job Steve and for sure they don't like people watching them work or tell them how it should be done but it has to be done right!

My wife gets angry with me at times for being to hands on but if a worker can get away with an easy job I want to call it something else they will do it and if the job is not done correctly it has to be done all over again and in your case maybe the neighbor won't be so happy with your dish on their 8 ft wall and good luck getting them to come out and redo that installation and for sure you are right your complaints fall on deaf ears because most of these Cable/Internet jobs are contracted out.
