Question Australians, and Fish and Chips

Hey All,

I'm curious if any Aussie expats currently living (or having previously lived) in the UK ever found a UK equivalent to flake in fish and chips? My partner is very particular when it comes to fish and chips and will only eat flake. We're planning on moving there sometime in the next 12-18 months I'm hoping there's someone who's had a similar "problem" and has found a solution that works .

On our last trip there we tried "plaice" as my Aunt figured it was the closest thing we could get (based on our very poor, jetlag-affected description of what flake is) but we didn't enjoy it as the flavour was too strong. It could be that the shop we got it from didn't prepare it well (or that we'd just landed after travelling for 26 hours)

On our most recent trip there we tried "plaice" as my aunt figured it would be the closest equivalent based on our jetlag-affected description of what flake was but it just wasn't quite the same. (That being said it could just be the way the shop we got it from prepared it so it's possible plaice is actually good and this particular meal just wasn't).

For those not familiar, flake is a very mild white fish usually from a shark of some kind: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flake_(fish).

Cheers

Matt

I would try FB pages geared towards Aussies in the UK.

On the topic of fish and chips my favorite fish is probably cod or haddock when getting a good ole chippy!
