Default Flying from India to Melbourne

I am flying from Delhi to Melbourne via China Southern in August, wanted to know what should be the things we should do in the first two weeks as our trip is a validation trip. And also do we need a transit visa as there is a layover of 5 hours at Guangzhou

As long as you don't have to leave the terminal you do not need a transit visa at Guangzhou.
Your validation trip is just a vacation, you don't have to do anything other than turn up.

one advice would be to take a local sim card - buy a boost mobile connection and list it as your contact number in your resume in case you want to apply for jobs in OZ.

The rest of the stuff - TFN, Bank account, medicare et al. can be done once you move permanently.
