Default World tourism to fall by 80 %

World tourism to fall by 80 % as a consequence of coronavirus.

But is that not a good thing ?

I personally hate tourists

The world would be a better place without tourists IMHO. I think nature would agree with me.

Just think of the benefits.

Well it's surely bad for anyone whose livelihood depends on tourism. Which seems to be a whole lot of people. And it's bad for the governments who collect a lot of their tax revenue from tourists/tourism. Which seems to be a whole lot of governments.

Also it means I probably can't come to France on vacation this year to start visiting/researching possible areas to move to. Which, because I am selfish, makes me more sad than it ought to given the bigger picture.

On balance I understand the beaches in my area of Florida are much quieter than they would normally be this time of year because most of the "snowbirds" headed north earlier in the crisis instead of staying here until sometime in early May. And I expect the area of Maine I live in during the summer will be quieter than usual for the same reason. So that part will be good--I like peace and quiet!

But it is also very bad for the planet. That is the one we live on. And there is only one.

Tourism probably kills more worldwide each year than coronavirus.

Not for people whose livelihoods and income rely on it

I personally hate tourists

They probably wouldn't like you either

That's your summer holiday not happening then, have a nice time in your back garden

Just think of the benefits.

Not sure losing 9.7% of GDP from tourism would be seen as a benefit for France nor Spain whose GDP from tourism comes in at 11%

The Human Race will eventually wipe itself out and the planet will regenerate itself like it did when the asteroid hit and wiped out dinosaurs.

Tourism, the oil industry, the arts. Lots of industries are being hurt by this virus - and we'll have to see which ones are able to adapt themselves to the new reality and new standards of behavior.

Economic Darwinism in action?

It would be great that the British remained in the UK, French in France, the Germans in Germany, the Americans in America etc...for their holidays.

What is the point of polluting the planet just to eat chips in another country ?

I am not sure what the point is for a 'Brit' (lets say Brit for the sake of it) to go on holiday to France.

What the weather, the food, the culture ? Be quiet

PS..I should have said 'foreign' tourism BTW

Oiii .. what's that all about, you make me sound like I'm 90, I'm not that much older than you

I understand where you're coming from, we get hordes of tourists here in Brittany, drives me potty but that's the way the world has evolved and why shouldn't we be able to see more of it, it is after all for the main part a beautiful planet. I'm more concerned about what we as a species do to the planet by way of drilling and mining plus the use of plastics that pollutes and encroaches more and more on the habitat of wildlife both on land and in the sea with our never ending thirst in the pursuit of having everything that glitters and makes our life easier.
