Where not voting does make a difference is the so-called battleground or swing states. where neither party holds a clear advantage. From Wikipedia...
If current trends from the 2012 and 2016 elections continue, the closest results in 2020 will occur in Arizona, Florida, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska's second congressional district, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, with Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin constituting the "Big Four" most likely to decide the electoral college.
Yes and the ratio of electoral college delegates vs. population is very skewed between one state and another which makes things more complex. In the 2016 election, if I recall correctly my son who at the time lived in California's vote counted only about half of what my son who at the time lived in Iowa's vote counted for in terms of electoral college delegates. Though maybe that was partly due to swing state status? Now they're both in California though so their vote counts for basically nothing unless all the anti-Trumpers didn't vote while Devin Nunes and all his ilk voted.

This is one way of showing the power of the electoral vote. Sooner the US gets rid of this archaic system the better.

Apparently 45 wanted to get rid of the Electoral College and had all kinds of rants about it on twitter, that is until it benefited him and made him President and then it was the best thing since sliced bread

The Americans should abolish the Electoral College - as its an idiosyncratic eyesore on the Democratic
process in the United States and 'who knows' what machinations goes on within the Electoral College -
as it always looks like an indirect way of overturning those who would otherwise get the vote,
in the one man, one vote system.

FPTP is not much better, how can you command a majority when only 37% of the electorate voted for you.
So Williams before criticizing others voting systems maybe it would be better to fix your home country's system.

Before abolishing the Electoral college, we should remember why it was created. It was designed to create exactly the result above, to ensure the smaller states were not disenfranchised. If it no longer makes sense, then it should be replaced by something that does, not necessarily FPTP

It was created to pander to slave owning states whose small populations would have rendered them at the mercy of states that people actually wanted to live in. Same with the US Constitution's diktat that a slave counted as 3/5ths of a "real person" when it came to the census.

I was just waiting for that answer, thanks maybe we can swap it for our House of Lords in fact many true
british socialists will give the Americans, the House of Lords gift-wrapped !!

All that pomposity and ceremony should go down a treat in the states.
