Years and years ago I was flying in and out of France on the low cost carriers (ryanair, easyjet....Go...remember Go ?) for one euro?

Low cost carriers are no longer low cost. You can't fly for one euro anymore. They have become the same price as major airlines.

I drive now...and go ferry.

Could go either way, if we end up with mandated travel restrictions the prices will go to whatever the rubberstamp fare is and stay there (because that's what any compensation to the airline would be based upon). OH managed to get a very good rate on flight and hotel to Rome later this year. If I'm going to get sick I want to do it somewhere with wine.

Going to Oddbins would be cheaper to be fair.

True, in fact if you want "extras", like luggage, they can work out more expensive. I'd generally rather drive, but after about 6-8 hours or so it gets tiresome.
BE did some of the less well served French regions, and for some people, particularly those with summer gites appear to have been very important.

Domestically they've a shedload of publicly funded contracts and it'll be interesting to see how they get rearranged.

When I need to go visit the UK I much prefer the train to flying. And that goes double for most European destinations.

While I think their hub slots will be de facto sold by this evening I don't see many still terminating in France. Will make a difference to those who frequently travel from/to the UK.
Coronavirus is being blamed as 'the last straw' (a couple of months ago it would have been Brexit).

Apparently Virgin pulled the plug on Tuesday evening, declining to put in any more money due to their own financial downturn due to the virus.

This coupled with the credit card companies withholding 50 m in payments meant it was going to be about 4m light on its payments due out tomorrow.

Umm. Yeah, but the Irish Sea is the most expensive stretch of water in the world per mile to cross, allegedly. I can certainly fly to (for instance) Bordeaux and back for a great deal less than it would cost me to drive there.
