You know perfectly well - work that requires you personally to pay contributions into a French pension scheme.

Though technically speaking you ARE your employer, so you get to pay both parts of the cotisation.

Just to lighten the mood a bit, a friend of mine posted this old sketch (from 1970) to Facebook. It's all in French, so I recommend that you turn on the closed captions (the little CC button on the bottom of the video screen).

Admittedly, a few of the references are dated and won't make any sense. But it does speak to the firmly embedded tradition of demonstrations here in France.

You may prefer the captions on the Facebook site (on the ina.fr Facebook page).

A 'real' job is when you pay contributions into a French pension scheme

That is just so ridiculous on so many different levels.

Why? You say you won't have a pension - there is a reason for that

Citizens' charter.

What's your excuse for not having a proper job and contributing to France - is it your age, your physical or mental condition, or the economy?
You will no doubt say your wife's paying in on your behalf but the charter makes it a personal responsibility.

I guess he will tell you that he is not a French citizen.
