Default Love or Wealth?

Reading an article in today’s Times about Macron cancelling the EuropaCity development or Dubaï aux portes de paris as Parisiens call it. It states that in a French opinion poll this week that “23 per cent of French people said that “love”was the best measure of success, compared with five per cent who said that it was “wealth” “. I cannot find the Poll one of the problems with my still having to use voice activated typing in French and not fingers!

I find the result reassuring given that France produces some of the most expensive show of wealth products in the world. The only people I have seen overtly wearing new “bling” in public in France are always foreigners. I have however seen the growing use and sale of affordable, vintage haute couture clothing even outside of Paris. This is maybe due to the eco responsible idea by the young in using vintage clothing and accessory items (and Circular Fashion) and the not mass produced in the Far East destined for landfill rubbish.

So maybe in France Love still rules and Paris is still the city of Love ...

A similar article in the Figaro (I'm not "abonnée" so I can't read it all) says it's a Harris Poll, Isualt:
Quote:
Fonder une famille et être entouré de personnes aimantes sont considérés comme les symboles de la réussite respectivement par 26*% et 23*% des Français, selon un sondage Harris Interactive
Very encouraging news!

That is not really true to be fair.

France is as bling as everywhere else.

I guess also, you have never been to church

If you want a display of wealth, go to church.

"Love or Wealth" is the title of a painting by French painter Anatole Vely (1838-1882) it is currently hanging on a wall in our lounge.

Well spotted. I have a book Painted Love: Prostitution in French Art of the Impressionist Era by Hollis Clayson it is in there.

I would say that 80 % of the people we know have been divorced at some stage in their lives.

Most kids at school come from broken families.

Well, you do seem to live in a very peculiar place. And I guess you don't actually know what bling is - you need to visit Australia's Gold Coast

IMHO that is irrelevant, simply because anyone can make a mistake and it's far better to acknowledge it and take action (when one is in a position to do so) than not.

I think canning Europa City is great - most people in the area actually didn't want it anyway (despite the view of a local Mayor) and it was not environmentally friendly, plus there is evidence that the types of jobs that come with it are far from the best and arguably abusive.

As for "love", I think it depends how respondents define the term (for me it is love of your fellow human beings and all that that entails. Haven't seen the survey, let alone the questions.

Love or wealth? I don't accept the question, I'll go for both. I'll not be limited by the impoverished word "or".

Or perhaps I will?........DejW
