Default I'm not supposed to be gullible.

Got "persuaded" to go for varifocals by my optician.
Mistake. I bloody knew it was a mistake but I still went with it.
Found them totally unusable, headache inducing and I also managed to drop a coffee into a laptop because the table wasn't where the table looked like it was to me.

Absolutely fuming at myself, can now only drive in daylight as the only script specs I have are my sunglasses.

You'd think I'd bloody learn.

P.S. I know some people get on fine with them, I don't.

I had the opposite experience - first pair were lined bifocals and I could barely function. Going down stairs was virtually impossible. Changed to no-line and it was a breeze. I feel for you. Those headaches are brutal, aren’t they?

We all had the same problems to start with but if you continue with them, you very soon get used to them.

You do have to give your eyes and your brain a chance to get their act together, it's not easy to begin with.

However after a week or so you should be ok so if this is not the case they are clearly not for you.

As usual, dear Verité, you give good advice when all I can do is make poor attempts at jokes.

You won't try to frame me, will you?

One monocle said to another monocle, "We've been seeing each other for a while, how about we get married?" To which the other monocle replied "What, and make a spectacle of ourselves?"

I have not used these lenses but a number of years ago I had lasik surgery on my eyes and had one "adjusted" for long distance sight and the other for reading-distance sight. I was told that it might mean I would never need reading glasses. (That was unfortunately not the case as I got into my 50s, and I now must use reading glasses.)

Adjusting to this huge change and getting my brain to know to let one eye lead for distance and the other for reading took a couple of months--it was awful with headaches and dizziness etc. I really had no choice though other than to close one or the other eye which wasn't a very good option.

BUT (I am really getting to my point here eventually!) after a couple of months my brain finally adjusted and it was great. And I expect your experience will be similar if you keep with those glasses--hopefully it won't take 2 months though!

I do still have some problems with depth perception because of the surgery, so I can sympathize with the coffee-spilling incident too. But being able to open my eyes when I wake up in the morning and actually see things clearly even when they are more than 2 feet from my face is worth all of it.
