Default Law/Tribunals in France

Has anyone else had experience with run-ins with the Law(Gendarmes, etc) or Tribunals they'd care to share?

Ours are documented (kind of) in here, but it might be useful to share others' experiences, getting Legal Aid (or not as applicable), etc., treatment, outcomes, etc etc

hi Hils

Sorry, no experience, no knowledgeso I won't even try.

Is there a French equivalent of Citizen's Advice Bureau?

I've heard that notaires will give you "first instance" advice for free, as long as they don't have to commit anything on paper!

Have you tried the Brit Embassy? They have people who know how things work in this area because they rescue drunk Brit tourists from police cells etc.

How about your local Mairie? They can be very variable - but they might be able to put you in contact with someone who could help (retired court judge for instance!) You never know who knows somebody who can help. In our village there's a hidden pool of experience, if only you know how to tap it.

If it's not too painful or time consuming please let us know how you get on. There but for the Grace of God go I.

no, there isn't a CAB.

Notaires will deal with "civil matters" like wills and houses, not anything that comes before a Court.

Brit Embassy; hardly worth the phone call.

Mairie holds a free Legal Advice thing once a month; have consulted.

Wasn't really asking for advice about how to get help; think we've got that covered. Just wondered if anyone else has been in similar/other predicaments & how they got themselves out.

Or maybe we've got info that would be useful to them ...
