I think Pesky's and Baldi's experience and great pleasure with their outings today is a good indicator that the vast majority of human beings need to get outside and to see people. And I have noted in some of Baldi's posts on the France forum the extent to which he has been locked down. There is a reason periods of confinement are normally used as a punishment.

At the same time, I can appreciate reluctance, anxiety and even fear about going out into places we now consider particularly crowded, especially when we all know that the virus is still around. I think the vast majority of us have experienced certain degrees of concern as lockdown is phased out - I certainly have.

So please explain to me HOW then a picture taken from almost the identical position was today featured in an article on Essex Live News (Image: Ricci Fothergill/Alamy Live News) and quite clearly says this is Southend and is quite clearly exactly the same beach as in my post, which you dispute is Southend. I am intrigued as to why you would dispute this and look forward to your explanation? Even a little video clip in the article to show how busy it was. I can only assume no special effects had been added post production to make it appear busier than it was

People will have to increasingly get used to assessing the risks themselves and trust their own feelings as de-escalation progresses. In some ways it was easier in the first few weeks when the rules were strict, pretty much everything was prohibited and there were fines for rule-breakers. You knew where you stood, no decisions had to be made (unless your name is Cummings).

The handful of Brits in my town have been dithering since the beginning of Phase 1 about when and where to meet up for a drink. We've made arrangements and cancelled them three times for fairly trivial reasons. I think we're all feeling a bit apprehensive to be honest.

But life has to go on and we have to respect each other's feelings, not put pressure on others to go out if they don't feel able to yet. Same applies to going to the beach - I hate crowded beaches at the best of times so staying away in summer is normal for me. But I imagine if you have a bunch of frustrated kids it must be realli difficult.

Well 4 sq metros to yourself on a beach in e.g.. Benidorm would be bliss in the high season

I think if anyone prefers to isolate let them do it, their decision.

I am also from that area and that is most certainly the beach at Southend and yesterday it was crammed like a normal bank holiday and precious little social distancing was evident from the footage I saw on the telly.

I would feel uncomfortable on a beach like that even in normal times.
Pesky Wesky and Alcalaina like this.

But maybe the guy that tweeted this picture from Southend today attached some kind of special lens to his phones camera and ran it through photoshop.

I can only see that as a tiny thumbnail so can't really comment but it's been explained previously how these photographs can be, and often are, taken.

It was taken on a Phone so I would doubt that your long lens theory as per your FB clip is relevant, no conspiracy tin hat brigade but just a guy taking a pic on his phone and uploading it to his Twitter feed, but see post #2502 where there is a very similar pic as featured in the Local Southend online news outlet from the same day showing categorically the crowded beach

Hardly 'my long lens theory' - it's a commonly used technique.

Anyway it's been shown how it works so there's not much point in going over it again.
