I likes my telly I does! So, I thought I'd throw out some of the stuff I've been watching recently and hope to get some tips on what to watch from other folks. I was pleasantly surprised to find that most of the shows on Amazon Prime have the original English soundtracks available.

Amazon prime has given me 'Shameless USA' recently, I resisted this for ages because I am a huge fan of the UK Shameless and thought the US version would be pony. It's not. I have to turn off my UK Shameless brain and not try and compare the two shows and then I really enjoy it. It's not for sensitive souls.

We are both enjoying 'The Good Place' at the moment, dunno where that is available, something called NBC - is that the Nambian version of BBC Mr Trump? It's very quirky, good fun.

I binge watched the last series of Game Of Thrones last week, we had visitors with small children and they all went out for the day so I stayed home and watched telly, nice. I don't know what all the fuss about the ending was, it was never going to be happy ever after was it? I was surprised that any of the characters were allowed to live after the Red Wedding episode.

Have you got Netflix?

We have Prime, Netflix and HBO. No UK channels, but the best series these days either start off on, or end up on, these streaming sites.

Current faves:

The Good Fight (Prime) - can you be an ethical lawyer in post-Trump USA?

The Handmaid's Tale (HBO) - definitely a Marmite series. Some people find it too horrifying to watch but I am addicted even though it left the book behind two series ago.

Jessica Jones (Netflix) Marvel anti-hero private investigator with a Bourbon habit.

Always grateful new recommendations!

We watched all 7 series of the Good Wife, the series before the Good Fight, easy to watch, I like entertainment that entertains not challenges. The Good Fight takes the story in a new direction, it's a bit more edgy, still good.

I hated The Handmaids Tale, I tried to red the book, hated it, tried to watch the series hated it, nasty stuff, maybe I'm just a bit of a sensitive little flower? But then I suppose Narcos is my all time favourite - that wasn't nice!

SWMBO has Transponder.tv which gives her all the UK channels and much much more. I don't watch tv as such.

How do you get HBO?
I don’t have fibra so could I get Prime? Netflix works OK.

If Netflix works then HBO should too, just search in the play store or wherever you get your apps. Could be listed as HBO.es or nordic. You get a free first month I think.

Anyway my recommendations.

  • 'Stranger Thing's' the best show on any of the platforms. On Netflix and is great if you like sci-fi and 80's pop culture.
  • If you are not already fed up with a dystopian British future then 'Years and Years' on HBO is for you. Just started it, will be watching more.
  • 'Good Omens' on Prime based on the Terry Pratchett novel, excellent performances from David Tenant and Michael Sheen. Possibly the only good thing on Prime.
  • 'Vikings' if you liked Game of Thrones this is a hearty replacement series. Very enjoyable. HBO and Netflix.
  • 'The Dark' on Netflix, German sci-fi. Das ist gut.
  • 'Chernobyl' and 'The Young Pope' on HBO are worth a watch too.
  • 'Star Trek Discovery' on Netflix for those that need it.
  • 'Sabrina' on Netflix, excellent show can't wait for it to be back.
  • 'Lost in Space' on Netflix, another great show just waiting for new episodes.
  • 'The Shannara Chronicles' Netflix, very good.
  • And 'Zoo' on Netflix.

Just a few to get started with.

Spanish shows worth a look:

Money Heist (3rd series available from last night) on Netflix https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6468322/

Mar de Plastico (but only first two series on Netflix) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4719586/ lots of twists and turns!

Good Omens and Vikings get my vote - Black Sails is good as well I'll be starting Years and Years next time I need a binge TV and ice cream day, which will probably be in about 10 days as I have session two of a triple root canal, post fitting and bridge crown session at the very excellent local German dentist. I told a friend who was visiting that I was shocked at the cost of nearly €2k and she laughed because she recently paid that for one root canal filling and crown in the UK. My dentist in the UK has been telling me for years that I needed this work done, but recently the pain got a bit narky so I was a brave little soldier and went to the dentist.
