Default Trump Twitter Nuclear

I have largely resisted social media . Only the other day I went to Twitter for the first time for a hugely entertaining clip.

I have just found out on the news that Trump posts on twitter what is actually going on.

Donald Trump has called for the US to "greatly strengthen and expand" its nuclear arsenal.

Maybe going to have to get a Titter acct so I can find out what is really going on. Will that mean I will have to like or have Trump as a friend to be included? Friday I am going to stock up on tins and bottled water. Have made our inner core shelter already.

All that aside a somewhat worrying development. Happy 2017 everyone.

I joined twitter, then left a few hours later, I'm not sure I've got any thing to say of great value that anyone would want to hear. I've used twitter a few times, Once to contact BA who responded quicker on twitter than via email and the Irish Embassy but you'll be amazed at who says what, reminds me somewhat of the XFactor for wannabe commentators. I see no value in one sentence pontifications, and Facebook is bad enough for political wackos, twitter gives them another outlet, where they don't have to explain themselves in full. Strange concept

I dont have either a Facebook or a Twitter account so I'm never going to see who says what about what, other than what other people or the mainsrtream media report. Some people must spend almost their entire life on one form of social media or another, and most of it is complete tripe

It's like a lot of things - it's what you make of it.

There are good and bad newspapers and good and bad television but what you read and watch is up to you.

I have both facebook and twitter accounts although I rarely look at twitter.

One facebook account is a great way of keeping in touch with friends and family all around the world, the other is dedicated to special interest groups.

I get most of my news notifications through them as links to newspaper articles.

If I get boring or fractious posts (which is very rare) I simply unfriend - no problem.

I have a friend who refuses to have an FB account 'because of all the problems it causes'. He is unable to say what those problem are nor how he knows they exist.

The worrying thing is much of the mainstream media gets their news from Twitter now. Even SKy news and BBC spend much of their programmes with an iPad quoting from it.

I peek at Facebook but don't post. Some people I know well, even relatives, I feel as if I don't know anymore. some seem to spend their holidays posting photos or recording every meal people who live in the same house wish each other happy birthday on it on our recent holiday I watched a woman do 4 retakes of her partner walking up the beach and leaping in the air to put on Facebook!

I don't have a Twitter account but I do use Facebook a lot for newsfeeds and reposts by friends on things I'm interested in. Every morning there seems to be some new tweet from the Trump to put the fear of god in me.

However it can be dangerous to rely on friends and self-selected sources for news and views, because of what they call a "filter bubble". You only get opinions more or less the same as your own, which gives you a distorted view of the world. This helps explain why I and many others were so surprised by the Brexit referendum result - we just weren't hearing the other side because we'd filtered it out.

Fortunately we have la Tasca on the Expat Forum, with its broad spectrum of opinions... Impossible to get complacent in here!

But isn't that because the first Twitter users were journalists?

But you are very active on this forum, which is a form social media! It's surprisingly easy to filter out the "tripe" on FB and it is a lovely way to stay in touch with friends and family in other parts of the world. It's also a good way of learning colloquial Spanish (I am "friends" with half the village now). I'd feel quite isolated without it.
